WHO AM I?

How I Learned To Coach

I got interested in track & field coaching during high school. After several attempts at being an athlete, reality set in that I wasn’t very talented physically. However, I loved the sport!

The way I could stay around the sport was coaching and teaching those who wanted to get better. Since we didn’t have YouTube or the Internet yet, I read books and watched coaches train athletes to learn the techniques.

In my first years of coaching, I was able to coach a 14 year old female high jumper leap 5’9” and developed an awesome group of young ladies ages 12-13 years into one of the top 400m relay teams in the USA! One of the members of that relay squad also long jumped 19’2” (a world record for this age group at the time!).

Over my career, I’ve coached an Olympic Champion (1996 High Jump Charles Austin),  an Indoor World Record Holder (1982 High Jump-first woman in the world over 2.00m (6’6’¾”) Coleen Sommer, 5 women high jumping over 6’4”, 3 men high jumping over 7’5” & several Olympians, State Champions, & School Record Holders. I’m the only female coach to have coached NCAA champions in long jump, triple jump, & high jump.

Coaching has been my love from the beginning! It’s so rewarding to see the look on people’s faces when they perform better than they ever have or when a technique suddenly makes sense.

I want to help you achieve your goals too!
